Capturing the cosmos: My Astrophotography Experience at NYU
As a professional portrait photographer, I am constantly inspired by the beauty and intricacy of the human face. However, my passion for photography extends beyond people and into the vast, mesmerising night sky.
I recently had the incredible opportunity to study astrophotography at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYU).
The experience was not only enriching, but also filled with lessons and awe-inspiring moments under the pristine night sky.
Essential preparations:
Before embarking on this adventure, it was essential to gather the necessary equipment and supplies:
- Camera and tripod, extra batteries
- A comfortable chair
- Water and snacks
- Warm clothing
- Power banks
- Red flashlights
- First aid kit
- Bug spray
- Binoculars
One of the key factors for successful astrophotography is finding the right location.
NYU provided an ideal location with
- No light pollution: This is crucial for clear night sky images.
- Dark skies
Using long exposures and manual focus, I was able to capture stunning images that showcased the vastness and beauty of the universe.
Each image was a testament to the patience and precision required in astrophotography.
Astrophotography at NYU is an experience I highly recommend to anyone interested in capturing the wonders of the night sky.
With the right preparation and equipment, you can create stunning images and enjoy a peaceful night under the stars. Remember to dress warmly, bring plenty of supplies, and most importantly, have fun exploring the cosmos!
